The New Subject - Mutating Rights and Conditions of Living Bodies

Der Korper als politisch umkämpftes Terrain

The New Subject ist ein interdisziplinäres Forschungs- und Ausstellungsprojekt des Kuratorinnenkollektivs TOK (Anna Bitkina, Maria Veits) und vier europäischen Kunstinstitutionen: Konsthall C (Schweden), Kunsthal NORD (Dänemark), Oksasenkatu 11 (Finnland) und dem KINDL - Zentrum fur zeitgenossische Kunst (Deutschland). Ausgehend vom menschlichen Korper als einem umkämpften Ort ideologischer und politischer Machtspiele untersucht das Projekt die Herausforderungen und Zwänge, denen der Korper im Zusammenhang mit globalen Biopolitiken und technologischem Fortschritt ausgesetzt ist. Durch die Erforschung von Themen wie korperlicher Autonomie, Reproduktionsrechten und gesellschaftlicher Normen, die den Korper umgeben, stellt The New Subjectvorherrschende Narrative in Frage und versucht, staatliche, wirtschaftliche und ideologische Strukturen aufzubrechen.

The Body as a Politically Contentious Terrain                                         

The New Subjectis an interdisciplinary research and exhibition project by the curatorial collective TOK (Anna Bitkina, Maria Veits) and four European art institutions: Konsthall C (Sweden), Kunsthal NORD (Denmark), Oksasenkatu 11 (Finland), and KINDL - Centre for Contemporary Art (Germany). Starting from the human body as a contested site of ideological and political power struggles, the project examines the challenges and constraints the body faces in connection with global biopolitics and technological progress. By exploring themes such as bodily autonomy, reproductive rights, and societal norms surrounding the body, The New Subjectquestions prevailing narratives and seeks to dismantle oppressive state, economic, and ideological structures.
